01/21/12 Alabama Shakes @ the Continental Club, Austin, TX

I knew about this show for a couple of weeks and had intended on going, but then the tickets sold out and so I chalked it up to another, “oh well, maybe next time.” But one of the guys at work asked me if I knew who the band was and we decided to see if there were tickets we could get, and just my luck, they had held back 50 tickets to sell at the door. (It actually ended up being just 20 because management decided they needed 30 tickets.)

So, we made plans to meet up, but a little after 6pm, he sent me a text and said people were already lining up, so he wasn’t going to go because the chances of getting in didn’t look great. I agreed and continued playing PS3, but then I thought, “Fuck this. I didn’t move to Austin to sit in my apartment and play video games.” So, I threw on my best holy jeans and headed to S. Congress, and it turned out, there were only a few people in line.

So, long story slightly shorter, Alabama Shakes is the best live band I’ve seen in quite some time. I’ve been told by more than one person that this will be the last opportunity to see them in a venue this small. I’m glad I went. It felt like church.  I feel like a better person having been there to experience it.

Life is good.
