I saw this quote on my social media today. I’ve heard it a lot from the political “right” in my day, especially during the Dubya administration.

Philosophically, my reaction has always been, “No, this is America. If you don’t love it, change it.” However, those people may be onto something.

Barack Obama is president. If you don’t love it, leave it.

Women have a right to choose. If you don’t love it, leave it.

This country grew strong as a “melting pot” of cultures and races. If you don’t love it, leave it.

And once all of those people have left it, we can let gay people marry like everyone else.

Then we could celebrate those freedoms people have died for serving their country.
